Birds, Bees & Blooms of the Willamette Confluence
May 1 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Embrace the spirit of May Day with local ecologist Bruce Newhouse on an immersive exploration of the Willamette Confluence Conservation Area—a 1,305-acre natural area where the Coast Fork and Middle Fork of the Willamette River meet.
Thursday, May 1st 10:00am-1:00pm
This site encompasses a mosaic of endangered habitats, including six miles of river corridors, floodplain forests, wetlands, upland oak woodlands, and native prairies. These diverse ecosystems provide sanctuary to over 30 native fish and wildlife species considered at risk, such as Chinook salmon, northern red-legged frogs, vesper sparrows, and the western meadowlark—Oregon’s state bird.
Our 3-4 mile walking tour will traverse mostly flat gravel roads, with optional short side trips over uneven ground, allowing participants to fully experience the area’s rich biodiversity. Along the way, Bruce will share insights into the intricate relationships between the area’s flora and fauna, highlighting ongoing conservation efforts that maintain and restore these critical habitats.
Please come prepared with comfortable walking shoes, water, and a sense of curiosity as we celebrate the wonders of spring on this special May Day event.
The Willamette Confluence is located on Kalapuya Ilihi, homeplace of the Kalapuya peoples who stewarded these lands and rivers before us.
