Blue River Drive Hearing before Planning Commission

Lane County is working to develop a design concept for Blue River Drive (east of Blue River Bridge to McKenzie Highway) that reflects community preferences.

Creating a solid vision for Blue River Drive is needed to provide better direction about where to measure building setbacks. For example, there is currently a 60-foot right-of-way for Blue River Drive, but Lane Code requires an 80-foot minimum right-of-way width plus an additional 10-foot special setback for Blue River Drive. Our goal is to adjust those widths along the downtown stretch of Blue River Drive so they are smaller and better support rebuilding.

The first step in this code clean-up process is a public hearing before the Lane County Planning Commission which has been scheduled for February 7, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. to eliminate the 10-foot special setback. You can attend virtually or in-person to watch or give public comment; instructions are at the bottom of this email.

If approved, the code amendment eliminating the 10-foot special setback would then enable the Board of County Commissioners to establish building setbacks at a width less than the current 80-foot minimum. The current code amendment will not establish what the final right-of-way width will be – that will require more work with the community and our partners.
