Finn Rock Landing Reopens

Extensive Improvements to Finn Rock Landing since Project Began in 2018

Recreationists visiting Finn Rock Landing will discover a number of improvements thanks to a five-year improvement project, according to officials with the McKenzie River Trust.

The organization said that work began in 2018 to improve the landing, with the project including ADA-compliant parking, lighting, and a vault toilet that was all funded by funding through the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Other work included the creation of defined parking spaces, pedestrian safety routes, places to gather out of traffic, and the installation of bird-friendly lighting, McKenzie River Trust officials said. The McKenzie River Trust organization said that the improvements totaled about $850,000 with grant funding through the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department’s Recreational Trails program, Lane County Parks bond measure, and private donations.

The improved landing was designed based on community feedback in partnership with Cameron McCarthy Landscape Architecture & Planning.

Delta Sand and Gravel, Inc. completed the work, which included creating defined parking spaces, pedestrian safety routes, places to gather out of traffic, and bird-friendly lighting.

“The most exciting part of this project is the incorporation of Universal Design principles,” observed Zane Wheeler with the City of Eugene. “Every summer, through our Adaptive Recreation Program, we bring dozens of people who use mobility aids such as wheelchairs to the river to take advantage of our special rafting equipment. Having accessible infrastructure, including ADA parking and ramps, is an important step forward in creating a more equitable outdoor experience.”
