Lane County – Waste Water and Survey Update

Source: McKenzieRebuilds.org

Lane County is looking for grants or state funding to help survey Blue River properties as the work to study the development of a wastewater treatment system picks up speed.

Typically, it is the responsibility of the property owner to hire a surveyor to mark property lines when they rebuild. Due to the extensive fire damage, the large-scale improvement projects on the horizon, and the support needed by many fire-affected residents to rebuild, Lane County recognizes the need for a comprehensive survey.

Lane County does not have the staff capacity nor funding at this time to survey private properties in the fire-affected area.  Lane County survey crews are prioritizing the inspection of survey monuments in Blue River to ensure the monuments are accurate and usable for surveying. Survey crews continue to check monuments in other parts of the fire-affected area, too.

Property owners who are ready to rebuild should not delay having their properties surveyed while Lane County seeks funding for surveying assistance.

If funding can be identified, Lane County intends to hire a contractor to survey properties in Blue River on an opt-in basis. If funds are available and funding sources allow, Lane County may be able to support surveys in other parts of the fire-affected area and may be able to reimburse property owners for surveys that have already been completed and were not covered by insurance.

None of this is guaranteed. Whether Lane County can conduct surveys, or reimburse the cost of already completed surveys, in Blue River or other fire-affected properties is dependent on how much funding the County can secure and any restrictions that may come with the funding.
