We have a $5000 grant to build a bike repair station serving our community and the Aufderheide (Hwy 19).
The Aufderheide is a gorgeous 60 mile stretch of light use highway from Blue River to Oakridge. Due to its light traffic and incredible beauty it is a spectacular road bike ride.
We are seeking a couple people to join our Bike Committee to oversee the project.
We can install a bike repair station by itself, or we can add a sign and possibly a cover. We’d love to have signage on the kiosk that would announce the ride (with map) and support our local businesses by letting riders know that they exists.
We can build it along the Aufderheide (with Forest Service permission) or if we have a local business near the Aufderheide they can apply to sponsor the repair station. Which mostly mean that they will keep it presentable and make repairs as needed. Having a hose to wash a bike off after a ride is a good attraction for nearby mountain bikers.
The committee would oversee the project
- generate ideas,
- consider potential locations,
- determine design and
- raise additional funds should that be needed.
The committee may also choose to continue onto other bike and/or recreation support projects in the area.
Who can participate?
Anyone who loves cycling, the outdoors and can work respectfully with others. Our preference is for those living anywhere in the McKenzie River communities, including those in Eugene and Springfield.
As part of the process, we may be able to buy bike repair equipment wholesale and provide them to multiple local businesses. Repair kiosk locations will be a part off our upcoming tourism marketing campaign.
