Community Lighting for Blue River Dr – and optionally, other parts of Blue River.
Why Is this important?
To help encourage investment into a small rural town like Blue River, we need to create a sense of place that is inviting, charming, welcoming and feels safe.
With a proposed redesign of Blue River Dr. we have an opportunity as a community to give input on what type of lighting will help us reach those goals and make us feel good about what is chosen.
Using the same style lights throughout the community will help it feel connected.
From past community input, it’s clear that we do not want standard streetlights and we do not want to have light pollution messing with the sky late at night.
Do we have the lights on for a limited time, then dim them and eventually shut them off at a certain hour?
Do we make sure that tall lights are focused directionally to the ground to minimize light going up?
Do we have short lights that have a nice warm glow lower to the ground and not pointing up?

Some options do not need to be mounted high in the air! Some of the lights in Empire Pass are waist high and do not point light upwards.
These lights are from Sternberg Lighting. Check out their website for visioning more ideas: Sternberg Lighting
They are recommended by Deanna Schafer, City Manager, City of Reedsport
This is of course one vendor, there are many others. We can also look into getting something custom, as we don’t need that many lights.
With some forethought, we may be able to come up with something that is unique for Blue River and can help add charm to our town, while embracing much often Dark Sky initiative.
