Holiday Farm Fire · What We Learned

Where did you stay after the fire?

If you stayed in free emergency or assistance housing after the Holiday Farm Fire (a hotel, FEMA unit, shelter or anywhere temporary), we’d like to hear what it was like.

Why we’re asking

McKenzie Community Partnership is putting together an honest record of six years of fire recovery on the McKenzie River. We’re sharing it so the next rural town hit by wildfire can plan better. Shelter and temporary housing is one of the hardest parts of that story, and the official reports say little about what it was actually like to live there. Your experience can fill that gap.

What we’re looking for

Where and how longThe kinds of places you stayed, roughly how long, and how many times you moved.
What workedHelp, people or arrangements that made a real difference.
What didn’tSafety, conditions, rules, getting in or getting out. Be as honest as you’re comfortable with.
Advice for othersWhat another town should do differently when it houses its fire survivors.

What we mean by shelter: lodging provided free through FEMA, the county, the Red Cross, nonprofits or churches. If your stay was paid for by insurance, your story is still welcome, but free assistance housing is our focus.

Your privacy: share only what you’re comfortable with, and please don’t name other people. You choose whether we can quote you and how you’re credited. We won’t publish anything without your permission. Short answers are fine.
