Blue River Drive Announcement and Update

Blue River Drive Design – Community Q&A Scheduled

In September of 2023, thanks to community input on design options for Blur River Drive, Lane County Public Works Transportation Team endorsed a number of new developments and designs for the downtown portion of Blue River. The Oregon Solutions McKenzie Rebuilds Blue River Workgroup reviewed and endorsed the designs at their meeting on September 19th 2023.

After a short pause in activity,  Lane County Transportation Advisory Committee (TrAC) has scheduled a public meeting on March 27th, 2024.

To prepare for the public hearing, there will be two on-line question/answer sessions in February.

  • The dates are:
    • Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 1:30 to 3:00 PM
    • Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM

The meeting criteria will be identical.

The purpose of the February meeting is to prepare for the next step in the process, which is a public hearing before the Lane County Transportation Advisory Committee (TrAC).

  • There will be a staff presentation summarizing the process that has occurred over the past year and of the recommended design concepts.
  • The last half-hour of the meetings will be focused on answering any questions you may have.
  • If you have questions, ask them at the February meetings. If you are not able to attend those, please feel free to reach out to Becky Taylor directly. (info below)
  • The platform of the February 17 and 21 meetings will be MS Teams, so you can get familiar with it, if you’re not already, before the March 27 public hearing.

TrAC

  • The TrAC is a citizen committee appointed by the Board of County Commissioners (BCC). They meet every other month, on the fourth Wednesday, at 5:30 PM.
  • The next TrAC meeting is March 27, 2024. We are aiming to get the public hearing for this project on that agenda.
  • The TrAC bylaws dictate that they meet at the Lane County Public Works office at 3040 N. Delta Highway in Eugene. The TrAC meetings are hybrid and most participation has been on-line, via MS Teams. Please do not feel obligated to drive all the way to Eugene to comment. The on-line comments are of equal weight to the in-person ones. Written comments are also allowed in advance of the hearing.
  • The public hearing forum does not provide for questions and answers. At the hearing, people have three minutes to comment.
  • The TrAC is not the final decision maker. Their role is to provide a recommendation to the BCC, which makes the final decision.
  • I’ll send out a separate announcement about the public hearing with more instructions about how to participate in early March.
