Code Amendments Possible for Rebuilding in Blue River

Lane County Board of Commissioners could rewrite code amendments for rebuilding in Blue River.

At the upcoming April 25th meeting of the Lane County Board of Commissioners, relief from rebuilding anxiety for owners of buildings destroyed by the Holiday Farm Fire in Blue River may be prescribed through possible code amendments on the agenda.

Senior planner Becky Taylor has noted that the existing rights-of-way in the “downtown” area of Blue River, established by plats during the town’s creation, mostly range from 40 to 60 feet wide. However, the county’s current code requires widths of 50 to 80 feet, posing a challenge for many building owners whose structures were constructed up to their property lines. Requiring different setbacks for new structures could result in an inconsistent frontage alignment, according to Taylor.

To address this issue, options being considered include removing the 10-foot setback requirement for topographical constraints from the downtown portion of Blue River Drive or allowing development setbacks to be based on a board-approved design that describes the right-of-way instead of a code-prescribed width.

The meeting will take place in person on Tuesday, April 25th, at 1:30 p.m. at Harris Hall in Eugene at 125 E. 8th Avenue.  Interested individuals are welcome to attend in person or online. More information about the Board of Commissioners and their meetings can be found here.
