UMCC Will Host Disaster Preparedness Event for Community
On Saturday May 18th from 11am-4pm, the Upper McKenzie Community Center will be hosting their first annual Disaster Preparedness Fair.
What is a Disaster Preparedness Fair?
Disaster preparedness fairs are a great way to gather information and resources to help you be prepared for any emergency.
“The Disaster Preparedness Fair is an important event that will help to educate and empower our community members, equipping them with the knowledge and resources necessary to effectively respond to disasters and emergencies in the future,” says Liz Muzzey, one of the event organizers.
The Disaster Preparedness Fair is a great opportunity to learn about the risks of disasters and how to protect yourself and your family.
It is also a great way to meet other people who are interested in disaster preparedness and to get involved in your community’s disaster preparedness efforts.
Please join us for a fun day of information from local government agencies, businesses, organizations, and relief groups, demonstrations and presentations, emergency supplies, great raffle prizes, and free food and drinks!

WHAT IS “DISASTER PREPAREDNESS”?
Disaster preparedness refers to the proactive measures taken to minimize the risks and impacts of natural or human-made disasters.
It involves planning, organizing, and implementing strategies and actions to enhance the ability of individuals, communities, and organizations to respond effectively to emergencies and mitigate potential damage.
The goal of disaster preparedness is to reduce the loss of life, injuries, property damage, and disruption caused by disasters.
It focuses on being ready for various types of emergencies, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, wildfires, pandemics, and terrorist attacks.
Our community is no stranger to the impact of natural disasters.
Disaster preparedness for a wildfire or other natural event affecting a rural community involves taking proactive steps to minimize the risks, ensure the safety of individuals, and protect property.
