New Community Sign Ribbon Cutting

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Friday Sept 23rd at 11am we celebrated the completion of the first new “gateway” with a ribbon cutting ceremony

The sign will welcome visitors to the McKenzie River – and creates a sense of place and destination as people drive through.

While as residents, we may or may not care if we have a sign, this is really important for businesses (current and future).

“Each improvement is a like grain of sand and might not seem like much by itself, yet cumulatively they add up and create something really good” – Tony Casad, (board member for Blue River Park and Blue River Water District)

This has been a collaborative effort by many people and with a sizable grant from the State of Oregon. Special shout-out to Tim Laue, Carol Tannembaum, Ken Engelman, The McKenzie Chamber of Commerce, Travel Lane County, our Lane County Commissioners and our Oregon State Legislature for joining us to make this happen.

The staff at Funk/Levis was incredibly helpful in help with design.

Tim Laue was a driving force in getting state funding for our communities after the fire including a lot of money for these signs. Carol Tannembaum kept the project moving forward. Neither were paid for their time.

We are deeply grateful for the volunteer work that drives most of the improvements in our area.

Projects like these take a lot of time, resources and coordination with other groups and agencies.  Usually projects like this are only done by incorporated cities with paid staff.  The McKenzie River communities have been lucky to have such a dedicated volunteer base to get projects like these completed.

This is one reason why organizations like the McKenzie River Chamber of Commerce and us, McKenzie Community Partners is so valuable to the community.

Stay Connected and Do Your Part

Join our mailing list as we work to keep the community connected, as we advocate for our community    with the County and State, as we raise money for projects and help move projects forward.

You can engage or participate at whatever level is comfortable to you, but the first step is to stay connected and get notified of new projects and be able to give your opinions.

We need your help!  You can help by providing additional funds for our work and the 2nd sign.
