Disaster Preparedness Fair Presented by the Upper McKenzie Community Center

UMCC and local agencies want to ensure you’re prepared

The Upper McKenzie Community Center is hosting a free event on disaster preparedness on September 9th 2023 from 11AM-4PM at 54745 McKenzie Drive, Rainbow OR 97413. With our community directly impacted by the Holiday Farm Fire, preparedness is on the forefront of our residents’ minds.

“The Disaster Preparedness Fair is an important event that will help to educate and empower our community members, equipping them with the knowledge and resources necessary to effectively respond to disasters and emergencies in the future,” says Liz Muzzey, one of the event organizers.

The Disaster Preparedness Fair is a great opportunity to learn about the risks of disasters and how to protect yourself and your family. It is also a great way to meet other people who are interested in disaster preparedness and to get involved in your community’s disaster preparedness efforts.

What is “Disaster Preparedness”?

Disaster preparedness refers to the proactive measures taken to minimize the risks and impacts of natural or human-made disasters. It involves planning, organizing, and implementing strategies and actions to enhance the ability of individuals, communities, and organizations to respond effectively to emergencies and mitigate potential damage.

The goal of disaster preparedness is to reduce the loss of life, injuries, property damage, and disruption caused by disasters. It focuses on being ready for various types of emergencies, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, wildfires, pandemics, and terrorist attacks.

Our community is no stranger to the impact of natural disasters. Disaster preparedness for a wildfire affecting a rural community involves taking proactive steps to minimize the risks, ensure the safety of individuals, and protect property.
